A first deposit bonus is usually the first thing offered when you open an account. The banner leads with a match percentage and a headline figure; we read it the other way round — what happens to your first deposit once the sign-up bonus is attached, and what changes when you want your money back. Once a welcome package is claimed, the balance usually splits into your own deposit and the bonus funds. At many casinos both are merged into one balance that stays locked until wagering is complete — which means even your own money can be held. That is the single biggest difference between playing with and without a match bonus, and banners rarely mention it.
Some operators use a different model: real money is played first and the bonus only activates once it is gone. Which model applies is written in the promotion terms; look for the sentence about the order in which balances are used.
Payment methods that may not qualify
Welcome terms sometimes exclude particular routes: certain e-wallets, crypto deposits, or anything below the promotion's minimum deposit. If your first deposit goes through an excluded route, the bonus simply does not attach, and the cashier does not always warn you.

How to claim without making withdrawals harder
- Finish identity verification before the first deposit, not after a win.
- Make sure the account name matches the owner of the wallet or bank account you will use.
- Read three lines of the terms: wagering, maximum bet and the maximum amount you can cash out.
- Tick the bonus box only if you are ready to meet all three; otherwise skip it.
For players depositing crypto
If your first deposit is in coins, check two things: whether crypto qualifies for the welcome offer at all, and that the value the promotion counts is the converted amount recorded by the cashier, not the figure your wallet showed when you sent it. Declining is also an option
Plenty of players who want quick payouts decline the welcome offer. Without it the balance is not locked by wagering and there is no extra stake cap. If you have already claimed and want to withdraw, look for a cancel-bonus option: cancelling normally removes the bonus funds and any winnings made with them, after which the remaining real money can be withdrawn.
